MỘT LOÀI KHƯỚU MỚI ĐƯỢC PHÁT HIỆN TẠI VÙNG TÂY NGUYÊN VIỆT NAM
Thêm một loài Khướu mới cho khoa học vừa được mô tả từ mẫu vật thu được ở vùng Tây Nguyên đã đưa số các loài chim mới được mô tả ở tây Nguyên lên 3 loài. Bản mô tả mẫu chuẩn của loài mới nhất này đã được đăng trong Tập san Chuyên đề của Câu lạc bộ Điểu học Anh quốc. Loài chim mới này được đặt tên là khướu Kon Ka Kinh Garrulax konkakinhensis được phát hiện tại vùng núi Kon Ka Kinh tỉnh Gia Lai năm 20002 trong một đợt khảo sát thu thập thông tin để xây dựng dự án đầu tư cho khu bảo tồn thiên nhiên này.
Tên khoa học của loài được đặt theo tên núi Kon Ka Kinh nhằm lôi kéo sự quan tâm chú ý đến yêu cầu bảo tồn vùng có tầm quan trọng quốc tế này.

Loài chim mới này có vẻ bên ngoài rất gần với loài Khướu cằm hung Garrulax rufogularis phân bố rộng ở vùng Himalaya và đã được phát hiện ở vùng Tây bắc Việt Nam. Khướu Kon Ka Kinh có 4 đặc điểm về bộ lông mà không có ở bất cứ miêu tả của chủng nào của loài Garrulax rufogularis. Tại Kon Ka Kinh. Khướu Kon Ka Kinh phân bố chủ yếu ở tầng thấp của rừng thường xanh trên núi tại đai độ cao khoảng 1.600m đến 1.700m so với mặt biển và rất có thể chúng cũng có phân bố tại những vùng khác ở Tây Nguyên có cùng kiểu sinh cảnh và độ cao. Những luận điểm với loài đối chứng rất gần gũi với loài mới này là Garrulax rufogularis đã được đưa ra bằng chứng cụ thể và những điểm mà loài này đáp ứng được các chuẩn mực quốc tế để xác nhận một loài mới. Mức độ khác biệt của loài mới này đã vượt ra ngoài khuôn khổ những khác biệt đã thấy trong loài Garrulax rufogularis và do sự giống nhau về bộ lông của loài mới này với hai loài có quan hệ gần gũi khác, tình trạng loài sẽ phải được coi là bậc phân loại thích hợp.
Một cách đặt vấn đề khác là xác định loài mới này là một phân loài của Garrulax rufogularis sẽ làm cả hai bổ sung thêm một thứ nữa vào một loài vốn đã bao gồm rất nhiều dạng (và như vậy, ngay bản thân loài này cũng cần có sự phân chia nhỏ hơn về phân loại) và sẽ phải lờ đi những điểm tương đồng về bộ lông của loài mới này so với các loài đã nói đến ở trên.
Những tranh luận điểm giống như vậy cũng đã cung cấp lý luận để xác định tình trạng loài cho một loài cũng mới được mô tả gần đây là Khướu Ngọc Linh Garrulax ngoclinhensis.
